A Jala Dhara (Rainwater Harvesting) project was taken up in the Government High School in Geddare Village, Gauribidanur Taluka, Chikballapur District. This project was taken up with financial support from Dassault Systemes. This work was taken up in the first week of March, 2024. It is expected to be completed by the end of March, 2024.

A Vana Mahotsava (Afforestation) project was taken up in the Government Primary School in Shambookanagar Village, Gauribidanur Taluka, Chikballapur District. This project has been entirely funded by ACER India Ltd. The plantation has been done in a plot of around 2 acres in the school premises. Saplings of Jamun, Guava, Jackfruit, Chikoo, Gooseberry and similar native fruit-bearing species have been planted. The plantation work is complete. However, the project includes a maintenance component which will be ongoing for several more months . A Jala Dhara (Rainwater Harvesting) work was taken up in the Governement High School in Alkapura Village, Gauribidanur Taluka, Chikballapur district. This work was completely funded by the Titan Factory in Chikballapur Town. The work commenced in December, 2023 and was completed in the first week of February, 2024. The ground-breaking ceremony for a kalyani restoration project was held at Burudugunte village, Chinthamani taluka, Chikkaballapur district on Monday, October 16th, 2023. This prestigious project has been taken up with complete funding from Titan industries. The restoration work is expected to be completed in a period of 3 months. Senior functionaries of Titan industries, representatives from EAB and important persons of the village were present at this event. Jala Dhara works were dedicated to two schools in Chikballapur town on the 20th of September, 2023. Representatives from EAB and Gramaantara Trust and also from Rotary Club, Bangalore centennial attended this event. Students and teachers were present and enthusiastically received the gift to the school. An educational tour to the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru was organized on 12th and 14th of September for students of the Government High schools in Karahalli and Yeliyur in Devanahalli Taluka. The students evinced great interest in the exhibits and asked a lot of questions of the faculty which included Professor Rinku Verma. A Vana Mahotsava was conducted in villages in Gauribidanur Taluka on 26th August, 2023. This event was held in partnership with Gramaantara Trust and Reforest India. 200 saplings of high-yielding coconut, mango, sapotta, pomegranate were distributed to 20 marginal and small farmers. The silver Jubilee AGM of EAB was held on Saturday July 22, 2023 as many as 25 members and invitees attended this milestone meeting. The annual report and audited accounts were presented and discussed in the meeting, thereafter they were approved. The current auditors were re-appointed for another year. There was a lively discussion on the projects and programs and suggestions were given for activities to be taken up during the current year. Environment Association of Bangalore organized a Seminar to celebrate its Silver Jubilee on July 08, 2023. This Seminar was held jointly with Raman Research Institute which is celebrating its Platinum Jubilee. The Seminar was held in the campus of that Institute. The Seminar was held on the advise of Dr K Kasturirangan, former Chairman Space Commission and Patron of Environment Association of Bangalore. The Seminar was inaugurated by Dr Prakash Chauhan, Director, National Remote Sensing Centre, Hyderabad. Dr R G Nadadur, President, Environment Association of Bangalore and Dr Tarun Souradeep, Director, Raman Research Institute spoke about their organizations. As many as 16 papers were presented at the Seminar which had two themes – urban management and water conservation. Around 200 persons, including scientists, academicians, administrators and college and school students attended the Seminar. The topics covered under Urban Management included - Growth of Bengaluru- Assessment using Satellite Images, Urban Planning Over the Ages, Geospatial Technology for Urban Transport Management, Re-think , Re-define and Re-design waste for future without landfills, Urban Pollution, Climate-responsive architecture/green buildings, Environment Legislation and Policy and Challenges of urban sustainability in India The following topics were covered under Water Conservation - Management of Water Resources of Bengaluru, Ground water condition in Bengaluru, Potentials of rainwater harvesting in Bengaluru, Quality of water in Bengaluru, Water Balance Assessment for Bengaluru, Policies for Sustainable water resources development and Conservation, Drones for Water Resources Management and Surface Water Pollution in Bengaluru. Environment Association of Bangalore (EAB) has been participating in the TCS Marathon Bengaluru for many years now. EAB decided to participate this year also - our Silver Jubilee year! EAB was able to mobilize some funds under this banner. These funds will be used for the ongoing projects. EAB requests all friends of the environment to generously contribute so that many more projects and activities can be taken up. |
