Environment Association of Bangalore (EAB) has built and dedicated a Rain Water Harvesting System (RWH) to Government Higher Primary School, Narayanapura, Devanahalli Taluka on Wednesday, November 04, 2020. Dr. R G Nadadur, President, EAB, dedicated the project to the school. He told the audience about EAB. He also touched upon the genesis of the RWH project. He said that the primary objective was to slow down the drop out of girl students at the high school level. He also said that this was the third project that EAB had completed. He said that EAB would strive to provide water facilities in toilets in more Government Schools.
Dr Nadadur thanked Dr. B. C. Ravishankar, USA and Citrix R&D India Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru for their financial support and Sri K M Subbaiah, Sri Ramachandra Gowda and Sri Gundanna of Oxford English School, Devanahalli for their over-all support in implementing this project. He also thanked Smt Usha Shetty of Gramantara Trust, Bengaluru for graciously agreeing to partner with EAB in implementing various activities in Devanahalli Taluka. Sri N E Kumaraswamy, Treasurer; Sri V Bhaskar, Secretary; Sri Thirumalarao, Director and Smt. Usha Shetty of Gramanthara Trust also addressed the gathering. Summary of the project This project envisaged the construction of a sump which can store 23,000 Litres of water, which is harvested during the monsoon, from the terrace of building of the school. The rain water is stored in two sumps and pumped to different overhead tanks, which are used for the purposes of toilets, washing and cleaning. The cost of the project was Rs 1.60 lakhs (approximately). The beneficiaries of this project are 120 students and staff of the school, in terms of maintaining better cleanliness, hygiene and health. It is specifically aimed at providing water during the water-scarcity months.
